Nutrition: Healthy Eating, Healthy Eyes

Nutrition plays a vital role in your health, and importantly in your vision. As the saying goes, you are what you eat. Eating a balanced diet filled with the proper vitamins, antioxidants, and omega-3 fatty acids will go a long way to help prevent ocular conditions like macular degeneration, glaucoma, dry eyes and premature cataracts.

Drs. De Wolfe and Yousef will spend the addtitional time during your eye exam, counseling you about ways to change your diet in order to improve the way your eyes function. Proper diet starts with increasing your plant-based foods and legumes as well as decreasing your red meats and dairy. It is important to add color to your plate with fruits and vegetables; the more color, the more variety in vitamins and antioxidants you are consuming. They will discuss types of food that are enriched with proper omega-3 fatty acids as well as how to read labels on supplements to ensure you getting everything you need and nothing you do not.

Our doctors understand that nutrition plays a major role in protecting your vision. We try to provide you with the tools you need to implement better health and nutrition habits. When your body is healthy, your eyes are healthy.
